Rev. Allan M. McMillan BA MA Bth

Fr Al McMillan was appointed Pastor of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish September 1st 2004. He was born in Owen Sound in 1943 and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. Fr. Al holds two degrees in Sociology. His Bachelors Degree was achieved at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York and his Masters Degree at Boston College. He received his degree in Theology while studying at St. Peter's Seminary in London. He has also done further studies in Adult Education, French and American Sign Language.

Since his ordination to the priesthood May 5th 1973, he has served in various parishes in Sudbury and along the North Shore. During his early years he taught at the Nipissing Faculty of Education. He has served the diocese for twelve years as Director of the Catholic Ministries Program; as a member of the College of Consultors and as an Episcopal Vicar for the Sudbury Region for three years each. For six years he served on the National Advisory Committee on Adult Education of the CCCB. He has variously ministered as chaplain in Jails, with the Greater Sudbury Police Service, and ministers to the local Deaf Community.

In his spare time Fr Al has been a lifetime student of the writings of Thomas Merton OCSO and has been published on Merton's ecumenical and inter-faith endeavors. Fr.Al has occasionally lectured on these topics and is a member of the International Thomas Merton Society. In conjunction with his studies of Merton, Fr. Al is currently researching the influence of Modern Art on the Spirituality of Thomas Merton.
